Project Description
This is an extension to an existing strawbale house. The addition accommodates three bedrooms and a bathroom – the private spaces of the home. It also creates a new entry foyer for the residence, central to the overall scheme, accessed via a long covered walk from a new parking area.
The two kids’ rooms have deep strawbale window seats while the main bedroom has a private deck sized to accommodate the large bed for warm evenings.
Environmental Initiatives:
- External walls are constructed with either strawbales clad in recycled timber.
- The new concrete slab is used as thermal mass to collect solar heat
- High level of insulation in the walls and roof.
- Collection of all roof water for use in the home, or the vegie patch
