Master Planning
Master Planning is designing for the overall end outcome when the whole is to be established in a number of stages. This process is the same whether making a series of changes to an existing house as budgets allow; planning a new house to be built over time; or a whole site plan for an institutional project that involves a series of buildings that may be built over a number of years, such as a school or community facility.
The aim of the masterplan is to:
- Create a framework in which to develop the separate stages
- Instruct the design of the individual stages
- Avoid sacrificial work
Women’s Karadi Aboriginal Corporation
The masterplan, developed with Prue Slatyer Landscape Architect, plans for the overall long-term development of the Corporation’s site in Goodwood, Hobart.
The plan locates the three buildings - Community Centre; Childcare Centre; and Health and Wellbeing Centre; and arranges the spaces and links between.
Pirates Bay Retreats
Pirates Bay Retreats is located on a large tract of land overlooking Pirates Bay at Eagle Hawk Neck. The property is a mix of pasture and native bush. The masterplan locates six retreat buildings in the bush surrounding the existing residence and studio. The retreats have been located to create individual private experiences of the site, starting from the individual paths leading from the car park.
As the pavilions are to be built in two stages the masterplan ensures each pavilion is located with all other pavilions in mind, ensuring privacy and a consistent, coherent site layout. The masterplan locates all of the retreat pavilions on the site, as well as all the associated paths, bridges and steps; and organises the vehicle entry and car park.
